Worker Guide

Getting Started

Everything you need to go from sign-up to your first shift.

Signing Up

Create your account

Head to the worker sign-up page and enter your name, email, city, and a password. Your city helps us match you with nearby shifts once your metro area launches. Signing up is completely free -- no credit card required.

Verify your email

After signing up, we send a 6-digit verification code to your email. Enter it on the platform to verify your account. You will need a verified email before you can apply for shifts. Check your spam folder if the email does not arrive within a few minutes.

Early access and waitlists

OpenToServe launches city-by-city. If your metro area is not live yet, you are placed on the waitlist. Pre-registering is still valuable: you will be first in line when we launch in your city, and you can start building your profile immediately.

Building Your Profile

Profile photo

Upload a clear, well-lit headshot. Businesses see your photo before confirming you for a shift, so make a strong first impression. Avoid group photos, sunglasses, or heavy filters. Keep it current -- your photo should look like you do today.

Skills and roles

Select every hospitality role you can genuinely perform: bartender, barista, server, line cook, host, cashier, and more. The matching engine uses your skills to find relevant shifts. More skills means more opportunities, but be honest -- businesses rate you after every shift.

Work experience

Add your past hospitality experience with role, venue name, and dates. This helps businesses evaluate your applications. Specific details matter: mentioning craft cocktail experience or high-volume brunch service helps you stand out.

Media portfolio

Upload photos and videos that showcase your work -- latte art, plating, cocktail techniques. A media portfolio gives businesses a visual sense of your abilities beyond a written resume.

Headline and bio

Write a short headline (e.g., '5-year bartender specializing in craft cocktails') and a bio that describes your experience and what you bring to a shift. Keep it professional but personable.

Profile completion tracker

Your dashboard shows a profile completion percentage. A complete profile gets up to 3x more shift matches than an incomplete one. Aim for 100% by filling out every section.

Setting Your Availability

Weekly availability grid

Set your available time windows for each day of the week. The matching engine only sends you shifts during your available hours. Be accurate: if your availability is too narrow, you will miss opportunities. If it is too broad, you may get matched to shifts you cannot actually work.

Preferences

Configure your shift preferences: preferred metro area, shift types, minimum pay rate, and maximum commute distance. These help the recommendation engine surface the most relevant shifts in your marketplace feed.

Keep it updated

Life changes. If your schedule shifts week to week, take 30 seconds to update your availability. Stale availability leads to missed matches or declined shifts, which can hurt your reliability score.

Identity Verification

Why verify?

Identity verification protects both you and the businesses you work with. Verified workers get priority in the matching algorithm and access to premium shifts. Businesses are more likely to accept verified applicants.

How it works

Verification is handled through Veriff, our secure identity verification partner. You will be asked to photograph a government-issued ID and take a selfie. The process typically takes just a few minutes. Your data is encrypted and used only for verification purposes.

Tips for success

Make sure your ID document is clearly photographed with no glare. Ensure good lighting for the selfie and remove sunglasses or hats. If verification fails, you can retry from Profile > Identity Verification. Contact support if it continues to fail.

On mobile

If you are using the mobile app, the verification session opens in your device browser. Follow the prompts, complete the process, and return to the app. Your verification status updates automatically.

Setting Up Payouts

Connect your bank account

Payouts are handled through Stripe Connect. Go to Profile > Payout Settings and follow the onboarding flow. You will need your bank account details and basic identity information. Your bank details never touch our servers -- they go directly to Stripe.

Payout timing

Once a shift is marked complete, your wages are automatically transferred. Transfers typically arrive within 2-3 business days. For newer businesses, payouts may be held for up to 72 hours as a trust-building measure before being released.

Managing payout settings

To update your bank account or view payout history, go to Profile > Payout Settings and click 'Manage Payout Settings'. This opens the Stripe Express dashboard where you can manage all your banking details.

Payout status

Check your payout account status anytime from your profile. Statuses include: not started, pending (onboarding in progress), active (ready to receive payouts), and restricted (action needed). If restricted, follow the prompts to resolve.

Referral Program

Your referral code

Every worker gets a unique referral code. Share it with friends who work in hospitality. When they sign up using your code, both of you benefit from referral badge milestones.

How referral tracking works

Referrals are tracked automatically. Your referral stats (total referrals, successful conversions) are visible in your profile under the Referrals section. Achievement badges are awarded at referral milestones.
